OK.
I remember reading about my father giving John A. Widtsoe a ride home, I believe it was from Idaho, to Salt Lake. My dad was driving the car, and somehow he
was asked if he could help out in that way.
- - - 00:00:20 - - -
Was that on the way home, he and Elder Widtsoe
talk about John Wickersham Woolley it seemed that Elder Widtsoe was interested in him. And some of the things around his excommunication,
- - - 00:00:40 - - -
I don't remember what they said the exact question was,
but it seemed to be something about the character
or actions of John Woolley.
Of course, my dad knew John Woolley very well,
being his great grandson.
and having talked with him a number of times.
- - - 00:01:00 - - -
I don't quite remember how it turned out at the end,
but somehow there was a follow-up
where Ellsworth did send a letter,
apparently with some more information, to Elder Widtsoe.
I can't remember if Elder Widtsoe contacted them
- - - 00:01:20 - - -
and then asked some more questions
or some other kind of a follow-up reason.
But I did definitely read that he sent a letter to John Widtsoe.
And I was really curious about it.
So I tried to find an archive with Johnny Widtsoe documents.
- - - 00:01:40 - - -
And I found one, and I looked at it just in case.
But I didn't find a letter from Ellsworth Clark.
I thought it was very interesting.
Hmm.
So did you say that Ellsworth and John Widtsoe
would drive together and you were in the car with them?
- - - 00:02:00 - - -
I wasn't in the car.
I just read an account written about my dad
giving him a ride home.
So I imagine that happens long before I was born.
OK, I see.
- - - 00:02:20 - - -
I see.
Yeah.
All right, so that's the detail,
because we were trying to figure out how Ellsworth and Widtsoe had connected in the first place, so that's helpful.
Yeah, and I don't know what other connections there
may have been.
Just that, uh, he was the latest lady to take her right home.
- - - 00:02:40 - - -
I guess he was the florist, right? So he probably worked with a lot of the church membership, church authorities.
Oh, yeah, as far as downtown at the Hotel Utah, that's true.
Yeah, and I can't really remember if it stated how that was arranged, but somehow it seemed like he just agreed
- - - 00:03:00 - - -
to give him a ride home.
Right.
You're right.
I wonder if he got known even possibly at Hotel Utah.
Yeah, possibly.
OK.
I don't even remember my dad working there.
By the time I got old enough to remember stuff,
- - - 00:03:20 - - -
he was already working on Ninth South,
just east of my ninth east at the […] florist.
So you said that you searched for the letter
in an archive of Widtsoe, where was that archive?
Well, that's when I couldn't remember off the top of my head.
- - - 00:03:40 - - -
This was quite a while ago.
So I don't know if there's something to do with,
I mean, just once I come to my mind now,
where I might have looked is at the University of Utah
to see if they have an archive on John A. Widtsoe.
I mean, I don't know if I was thinking of the American West
- - - 00:04:00 - - -
archive that mostly Tanner established.
There's a lot of stuff in there.
Also, there's a different one that I just generally
like to see what kind of archives they had.
If any, I'm telling you, it could have even
been the BYU library, possibly.
- - - 00:04:20 - - -
OK.
Other than that, I'm not sure how I found one.
But then I went through to see if I could identify
anything that looks like it.
Yeah.
OK.
Let me see if there's any other question that I'm missing
- - - 00:04:40 - - -
that I thought you could answer.
Let's see here.
No, I think that's it.
Well, that's helpful, David.
Do you have anything else or is that?
Not to regard to what I just read on your index.
OK, yeah, I'll go ahead and stop.
- - - 00:05:00 - - -
Pretty reasonable.
I mean, I don't know all that stuff exactly where the word, but you seem to have it documented well.
OK.
And this seems accurate, but I understand.
Sounds good.
OK, I'm going to stop the recording.
