Dear Dad and Mother-
Your Christmas letters were so jolly & full of news it was more fun th reading them than Christmas was itself. We are glad to be back & active again - the snowy scenery is beautiful & not at all cold for this season.
We have rec'd many cards & letters the most outstanding, perhaps, being C E Brandow's reply to a card & note I sent him c/o of Fleetwood Sch. Lethbridge.
He wrote me a long & newsy letter about the school, praised Marvin, Oliver & Don, discussed with pride his b. ball teams & choruses. One thing interested me -- "I saw in the Leth Herald that your father had secured some good govt position in N.Y. sate & I wondered at him leaving his profession of bone-tiddling." Someone has sure got some wires crossed & I don't wonder that he was surprised at your turn of mind. I mentioned that Oliver was on a mission & at the last he said something which I didn't understand. "One Sun eve. Wife & I dropped into the Tabernacle & heard Oliver deliver his farewell address before going on a mission. We were much impressed."
Marvin reports a happy holiday & we also heard from Grandma Smith. Guess you have news from her also.
Glad the children enjoyed the presents & that you had such a long visit with Oliver. Is he able to take care of his expenses? Just before going to S.L. we ran so low with debt-paying that we broke my last $10 which I had hoped could to onto Oliver's upkeep. However we look for a better job next yr. & altho we felt it necessary to have a car we hop to turn it in on a new one whenever we do go East.
Ells has the S S. chorister job now along with other duties & I had to turn down a teaching job I would have liked. Last night & tonight will be our first social evenings out in homes for some time. Ells goes rabbit hunting right after school & is out now so wants me to convey his sentiments with mine. Does Marv expect to go East in Spring if there's a way? Will you stay in the Cumorah Farm or are you changing to the Smith Farm later? Vernon Clark showed us some beautiful pictures of the hill & surroundings. I'm anxious to see it all.
Can you return the snaps I sent during holidays & maybe I can send you some duplicates if you'd like any?
The neighbors have been commenting on the youthfulness of Mother's photo that stands on the piano. Many prominent in the ward have learned of my lineage & are wont to accept my opinions in classes, etc as quite authoritative. I see a poem in Jan. Era by O.F. Ursenbach. Will close now before these onions, cooking, make me cry.
Affectionately
Dorothy
