visit to the ancient San Xavier (Indian) Mission. Called the Old Mission. It stands majestic & grand out on the desert 7 or 8 miles from Tuscon. It is full of statues, wood carved, cloth-draped & stone all very realistic & artistically treated. Beautiful suggestive paintings on the walls by which the Indians were taught.
Perfect architecture & design. We entered tower by narrow, low, winding stone stairways; from which we could view Tuscon & surrounding country. A flat desert like space surrounded on all sides by mountains.
