Dear Mother [Ella Shepherd] -
Your letter was very interesting & newsy. Glad the girls have written at last as I was so lonesome to hear from them.
You will have plenty of nice things canned for winter but it is making a big rush for you now.
We are picking some raspberries on shares & will soon put up beans.
This week we sent some pictures off to be developed &
will send some as soon as they arrive. Tried to get one of Normand smile last Sun. but he was sleepy & showed no expression whatever but we took it anyway. (on a horse).
We have also sent for some soft white soles, some broadcloth for rompers, & a canvas swing. That he wouldn't kick the shoes out so fast. He has no bootees now. Just his satin slippers which are wearing out fast. Guess I'll get him a knitted outfit as soon as cold weather comes. I have a lovely warm blanket bag with zipper to carry him in in cold weather. (His feet are 4 in. long now.) I guess he'll need some bootees for warmth.
Grandma mentioned making lace for dresses, but I will put him in rompers soon. Haven't used more than the 5 dresses I already have as he just wears shirts around home. may make another dress or two tho.
Glad to hear Marvin is back in award activities. He must have quite a responsibility now. What is Dad's office in the branch?
Sorry Don had the misfortune of a leg injury. Hope he is able to help again now.

You must have a good sunburn yourself with the
weed pulling & field work you do. It ought to be taking
down your waistline. What dresses did you wear this
summer? Are you about the same size as when you left?
I'm rather lucky in regards to clothes. Changing locations
makes it possible to wear old clothes & still look dressed up.
The bronze suit has worn wonderfully & as it still fits I
intend to use it a great deal this winter & may buy one Sunday
dress besides. I wear my swagger coat almost everywhere
altho I haven't fixed the skirt yet.
The blue silk, altho I wore it ever so much last
winter is much too tight at hips, waist & shoulders, so am
sending it to Lois hoping she can remodel it for a Birthday
dress if she wishes. The other things I'm sending are all
too tight too & I'm not using them. I have plenty of house
dresses with the 3 nice ones you gave me, a pretty hoover &
bought & my two Kress smocks. No one in town has such a
lovely assortment of styles in house frocks.
I rec'd many compliments on the blue silk & I
surely liked it but now it's not handy for feeding Norman & I'd
only split it more by wearing it.
There are several young babies in town & once in awhile
we get together & show them off. From Aura takes honors for
disposition & looks too we think.
Dr. Clark pieced some pink & white flannel blocks from
scraps & I'll try to fill & line that for a light quilt. I've been
using the peach quilt & blankets you sent, also your wool shawl.
We are managing fine without June now. We wash
only once in two weeks & Ello does most of it. The baby doesn't
take any of my time except for feeding, bathing (sun & water) &
occasional outdoor walks so I really don't feel bound down by
anything.
